You’re not alone, join a support group – WP Tip #005

With all that there is to know about WordPress, you can't possibly know it all. But you don't need to, that's why there are groups out there that will help you learn and fix things on your website.

You should join a group where people can help you get problems fixed and where you can share some of the information you've discovered over time.

You can find groups all over the place, join one that makes you feel welcome and where you can identify with the other members.
The forums at WordPress.org have great support when you get stuck with self-hosted WordPress sites, themes and plugins. WordPress.com also has its own forums.

You can go virtual. You may find that your hosting provider has a high quality forum available to you. Some of the larger themes also have built great forums to provide support for their theme and even general WordPress information.

Or you can go local. Look for a local WordPress meetup, and if your city doesn't have one, you can join one of the many virtual groups that exist online.

If you're not sure where to go, here's a list of groups to check out and maybe join.

  • Dreamhost Discussion Forums  – Dreamhost has a very active forum and many people are there to help you with questions about your account, hosting, and general webmaster questions, including WordPress.
  • SitePoint  – One of the largest and most respected webmaster communities available.
  • WordPress Meetups around the world –  Enter your zip code or region at the top and find the nearest WordPress meetup for you to visit.
  • WordPress.org Forums – Excellent support for self-hosted WordPress installations. You'll find great answers as well as archives in issues other people have had before.
  • WordPress.com Forums – Support for WordPress.com bloggers.

      1. The OC WordPress Meetup came to mind… Jeff beat me to it.

I agree that joining a group, or heck, even co-working can be a tremendous resource! Find a group of like-minded people that are willing to help one another out and you’re golden 🙂
