Introduce Yourself to your Readers with an Author Box – WP Tip #011

Personal introductions are golden

You've seen them before, at the end of a post or on the sidebar, maybe even in the footer. The purpose of an author box is to introduce yourself to your readers. You can also invite them to subscribe to your updates via Email or RSS. I recently switched this blog from having the author box in the footer to displaying it under every post.

An author box is a small description of who you are, what you do or what you write about. Along with the description you can have an avatar and a link. You'll often see these author boxes in multi-author blogs and the links tends to take visitors to the writers main website.

For the technically inclined, here's a great blogpost on how to add your author box to your blogposts and pages.

Genesis, one of the best themes out there has built-in support for this tip. You simply need to edit your information in your profile and activate the feature in your settings.

Many themes provide support for an author box, and in addition to the custom code linked above and the themes, here are three plugins that should get you started.
